NECA Contractor Helps Camp Pendleton Receive Prestigious LEED Platinum Certification

Long-time NECA member, Neal Electric, a leader in San Diego’s electrical industry for over 25 years, participated in a formal ceremony  at Camp Pendleton to recognize The Wounded Warrior Battalion Bachelor Enlisted Quarters as the first Marine Corps’ project to be awarded a LEED Platinum certification.

Leadership in Energy & Environmental Design (LEED) is an internationally recognized green building certification system. The Platinum LEED designation is the highest rating for environmentally sustainable design and construction. Neal Electric was the electrical design/builder on the project and greatly contributed to the energy-efficient systems that boosted the facility’s LEED score.

Wounded Warrior Battalion West provides assistance to wounded, injured, and ill Marines and sailors and their family members throughout the phases of their recovery. The $24-million Wounded Warrior Barracks was completed last year. The project features 100 semi-private suites for men and women of all ranks and complies with the Americans with Disabilities Act. More information is available at www.bnwest.woundedwarriorregiment.org.

Barnhart Balfour Beatty was the General Contractor. Michael Wall Engineering worked with Neal Electric on the electrical design of the building. Neal Electric’s scope of work included electrical switchgear, electrical systems, interior and exterior site lighting, voice/data systems, fire alarm systems, security and CCTV systems. Ruben Landa served as the Design/Build Project Manager for Neal Electric.

The National Electrical Contractors Association (NECA) has issued a position statement advocating for the creation of a safe and accessible charging infrastructure to promote and support expanded use of electric vehicles nationwide. NECA’s electrical contractor members are committed to providing installations of the latest electrical vehicle supply equipment for residences and public facilities.

“NECA believes that without this charging infrastructure, electric vehicles cannot achieve their full potential to help the U.S. achieve its energy independence and sustainability goals,” said NECA President Rex Ferry.
